Meaning and history

LASK Logo history

LASK is an Austrian professional football club founded in 1908 in the city of Linz. LASK plays in the Bundesliga, the top division of Austrian football. The club is currently ranked second in its home country and 71st in the UEFA rankings. The team’s home stadium is Raiffeisen Arena, with a capacity of just over 19 thousand seats.

The LASK football club itself was registered in 1919, based on a sports community of the same name that had existed since the beginning of the 20th century. Already five years later, in 1924, the team came to its first major victory, becoming the amateur league champion. However, it took the LASK club another 15 years to gain professional status.

In its long history, the LASK football club only once managed to become Austrian champions, and that was in 1965. In the same year, the team from Linz also won the Austrian Cup. In the next few years, LASK played rather unstable, repeatedly falling out of the Bundesliga to the First Division.

In the 1990s LASK played in the lower divisions of the Austrian football hierarchy and was on the verge of bankruptcy. New sponsors helped the team to survive the difficult times and LASK returned to big football in 2007, immediately taking sixth place in the standings.

2017 – 2023

LASK Logo 2017

The name of the club LASK is an abbreviation for Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub, which is the Sports Club of Linz, the city where the team was established. Its visual identity doesn’t have many ups and downs or dramatic changes. As everything Austrian, the LASK logo is constant, strict, and elegant.

The logo of the famous Austrian football club is composed of a white shield in a very thin black outline, which allows placing the badge on various backgrounds. The body of the shield is horizontally divided into two parts — the bottom one with four black and three white vertical stripes, and a solid white one, with the wordmark and the club’s symbol.

The LASK lettering is placed above the vertical stripes and written in a bold and straight sans-serif typeface. All the letters of the inscription are black, except for “L”, which is scarlet-red.

Above the wordmark another club’s icon is placed — a black, white, and red flack enclosed in a black circular frame with the whole name written in white delicate sans-serif.

2023 – Today

LASK Logo

The redesign of 2023 has made the already concise LASC team logo even more modest and distinct. The shape of the crest became more geometric with the top border getting straight. The outline became a bit thicker, adding distinction to the badge. The pattern with vertical black stripes grew taller, leaving not much free space for the uppercase LASK lettering, executed in solid black bars of a slightly narrowed geometric sans-serif typeface. The emblem with a flag from the previous version was completely removed, as well as the small red color accent.
