Except for a couple of minor modifications, the CSGO logo has remained virtually unchanged since it was introduced in 2012. The logo has its roots in the emblem of its predecessor, Counter-Strike: Source.

Meaning and history

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS: GO for short, is one of the most popular shooters in the world and one of the most important events in the history of cybersports. The game from the legendary series of team-based network shooters from Valve was released on August 21, 2012, and to this day is at the top of the popularity rankings.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a competitive first-person shooter, which is a sequel to CS: Source and CS 1.6. The main mode in this game is Competitive, where round time is limited, you can damage allies, and all uniforms and weapons must be purchased.

Players are divided into two teams: terrorists and special forces, and then fight each other in a series of rounds, the results of which determine the winning team. Each team must eliminate the opponent before the end of the round, or fulfill alternative tasks: terrorists – to set and wait for the bomb to explode or hold hostages, SWAT team – to clear an explosive device or save at least one hostage. Each round lasts 135 seconds. If the terrorists fail to accomplish one of their tasks during this time, the round will go to the Special Forces. The match ends after eight rounds won by one team.

Each player always has a knife, pistol, body armor, and helmet in his arsenal. Players playing as special forces additionally receive a bomb disposal kit. In addition, at the beginning of the match, each player is given 1,000 USD, 3,250 USD for winning the round, and 1,900 USD for losing. With this money, you can always buy any weapon you like.

CS: GO is one of the most popular games in the industry. It is quite easy to master, so it is considered that anyone is able to understand the local mechanics.

2012 – Today

CSGO Logo

The 2012 logotype comes in two variations. Both use the game’s ordinary emblem featuring a marksman in firing position.

One variation displays the game’s full name. The main piece, ‘Counter Strike’, is written in a single line of text, where the marksman symbol is put in the center between the two words. The ‘Global Offensive’ bit is placed beneath the word ‘Strike’ so that the size of the former is scaled to fit the width of the latter.

The other variation follows a similar logic, but instead of the full name they’ve opted for the game’s acronym, ‘CS GO’ to be featured here. The silhouette is still in the center between the two halves of the text. They don’t use the colon in this version, and the emblem stylistically replaces it.

Symbol

The core element of the emblem is a man with a gun. Judging from his posture, most likely, he is not just holding the gun, but shooting or aiming it. The man is wearing a helmet. He looks almost as the man on the emblem of Counter-Strike: Source, yet if you take a closer look, you will definitely notice that they are not identical. The soldier on the Counter Strike:Global Offensive logo seems to wear more weapons around his waist.

On the left, there are the letters “CS”, while the “GO” text is placed on the right. The old CSGO logo looked pretty much the same, except for the typeface, which resembled the one used on the Counter-Strike: Source logo.

Full emblem

In the full version, the abbreviations “CS” and “GO” are replaced with the words “Counter” and “Strike” respectively, while the lettering “Global Offensive,” in smaller letters, is positioned below “Strike.” The full version is more recognizable than the short one, yet the “Global Offensive” text is so small that it is hardly legible unless the logo is very large.

Font

Counter-Strike Font

The typeface is a sans serif one with half-rounded finals. The letterforms seem to be based on the square shape. The font of the old logo was slightly different, which can be clearly seen on the letter “C.”

Color

In case of a dark background, the CS:GO logo is given in white. If the background is white, the logotype is dark grey.
